ASTERIX & OBELIX: SLAP THEM ALL! is a beat 'em up game set in the world of the Asterix comic books. Its graphics are very faithful to the original comic books, and it adapts several stories from the comic book series into the game.
This project is my first professional project. I joined the team as an intern for my end-of-study internship. My role as ASSISTANT PRODUCER was to assist the team's Closing Producer in structuring the end of the game's production (which had been delayed due to COVID) so that it could be released on time at the end of the year (at the same time as a comic book volume).
As a GAME DESIGNER, I was also responsible for the overall balancing of all combat phases and rescoping the additional game modes. In addition, as a QA TESTER, I had to test the game extensively internally, manage communication and test plans with external QA teams, and keep the bug database up to date.
I had what you might call three different roles, which allowed me to discover and experience three different aspects of game production right from the start of my career (as part of Team Indé). As assistant producer, I had the great opportunity to work closely with the publishing and marketing teams at our studio's publisher, Microids.
Finally, my work as a game designer cannot be summed up as simply making a big balancing pass on the game and re-scoping the mini-games. I also had a lot of design discussions with the team's sole game designer to simplify or improve many mechanics and game systems, a bit like an assistant game designer.
In short, this cross-functional experience covering all aspects of the chain is an opportunity that few people will have had at the very beginning of their career. And I am grateful to the Closing Producer who hired me for allowing me to experience this.
He gave me a perspective, understanding, and humility that others didn't have, which has helped me a lot in all my subsequent professional and non-professional projects.
